My name is Ralph Russo. I am a retired police officer and youngest child of Adolph D. & Rosemarie Russo. In 1967, Melvina purchased my parents home (her home since then) on W.144th St., remaining there until her passing on March 13, 2023. I am now nearly 70 years old and both of my parents are long since deceased. I am the youngest of 3 children. My oldest sister (Tonimarie) still survives. Sadly my older brother passed away in 2014. I was so saddened to hear of the passing of Melvina. I stumbled upon her obit just today (03/16/23). It was always comforting for me to know that she was still living in my parents’ house after all these years (60 yrs.) I always felt connected to my child home knowing she was taking good care of it. I would drive by from time to time just to see it. She kept the house and yard so immaculately kept. It is the “diamond” of the neighborhood that sadly has deteriorated over the years. I can’t tell you how often I wanted to stop by and just say “hi” to her and ask if I could take one last look at our home. Now, I wished I would have. It sounds like she might have been glad to see me. In fact, not only did Melvina buy my parents’ house, but she bought my grandparents’ as well. Many of her family may know that in 1967, she bought the entire “duplex” house (2 houses side by side). My mother’s parents lived on one side, and we, the other. I know every inch of both sides, and will never forget it. My father was a good builder back then, and built an addition on the back of our side and a new garage as well. (Melvina’s). Today is a sad day for me now, I hope someone from Melvina’s family can reach out to me. I would like one more chance to see my boyhood home that meant so much to me. To Melvina: “thank you for being such a good caretaker of the house you bought from my dad and mom and grandparents. May God bless you my dear friend. May you rest in peace”.
