James (Jim) John Sobota, age 75, passed away surrounded by family and friends on October 10th, 2018.  Jim is survived by Carol, his beloved wife of 53 years.  He was the loving father of Don (Libby) Sobota, Sandra (Deano) Cassidy, and Cindy (Chris) Shick.  He was the cherished grandfather of Shanon (Jacob) Brenenstuhl, Justin (Selitha) Sobota, Megan (Billy) Medley, Kevin (Katie) Sobota, Trent Shick and Troy Shick.  He was the great-grandfather to Jordyn, Tristan, and Billiahanna Medley, Parker, Rowen, and Logan Sobota, and Jameson Brenenstuhl.  Jim was predeceased by his parents, James and Julia (Tomasch) Sobota, and an infant sister.
Jim was a valued employee of St.Regis Paper/Georgia Pacific for 42 years before retiring in 2003.  He was the owner and president of Jim’s Leasing, Inc. from 1979 until 2016.  Jim was a proud member of American Legion Post 610 in Brook Park, the Masonic Lodge 638 and Order of the Eastern Star Westpark Chapter #427 in Cleveland .
He enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, and golf. He always had multiple projects going on which put his incredible lifelong mechanical abilities to work.  Jim and a childhood friend built a telegraph line between their homes, and later in life he held a patent for a dispensing/cleaning machine.  A kit car project in process for 25 years is now being enjoyed by his grandchildren and is “almost” street legal.  Carol did not have a new washer and dryer for the first 20 years of their marriage because Jim was always bringing home and fixing someone’s used broken set.
He enjoyed traveling, most recently to Florida where he loved the warm weather and could escape the cold, unforgiving Ohio winters. Jim was known for carrying a bottle of Yukon Jack in his golf cart which also served to keep him warm.  He was a lucky gambler, winning more than his share of lotteries, drawings, and door prizes.  He was generous with his time and a dear friend to many.
The family will receive friends in celebration of Jim’s life at Humenik Funeral Chapel, 14200 Snow Road, Brook Park, 44142 on Friday, October 12th from 4 – 8 pm.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Mary Queen of the Apostles Parish, 6455 Engle Road, Brook Park on Saturday, October 13th at 9:30 am.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693.  EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH ON SATURDAY FOR MASS.

Jim was a delightful person to be around. He was kind, lucky and very generous. He loved his new winter home in Florida. It was there that we got to know Jim and Carol better than at 610. We had many fun times. We will miss you Jim. Rest In Peace till we meet again. Joyce and Ed Stimac

Mrs. Carol, Sandy, Donny and Cindy... words can't explain how sorry I am to hear of Mr. Jims passing. It was such a great blessing to be a part of the neighborhood and such great friends with you all growing up. I can remember the laughs and the lessons as if they were yesterday. Wow, we had some good times. Mr. Jim always had a smile on his face and was always the fun of the party. Although I've been away for many years, I think about you all very often. My thoughts, prayers and heart are with you.
