Helen was a sister, wife to Howie, mother of 4 grandmother of 13 and great grandmother of 11. She was the matriarch and heart of her family, and she hosted a holiday like it was no one’s business all the way up until her body couldn’t host anymore. Her love language was food. If you were visiting, you’d better come hungry. Specialties: Dumplings, cheesecake and stuffed cabbage. Helen enjoyed playing poker with her siblings and bowling. She also loved any and all Cleveland sports and took special pride in her Indians. GO TRIBE! She was passionate about her job as head of housekeeping at Aristocrat/Greenbriar Nursing home where she spent multiple decades working and retired at the ripe age of around 75. Helen was indeed good at alot of things but I think her favorite role was grandma and she made it grand. I can’t remember many weekends where at least a few grand kids weren’t hanging out with grandma and grandpa where she was teaching us how to play solitaire or rummy, rolling out dough for homemade noodles or dancing the polka. She was always gentle with us, never angry and always forgiving. She loved all the babies like they were her own. There was never a holiday that went by that she didn’t have a little something special for everyone and even as we grew older and started having kids of our own, she was always making little goody bags for each of them. Helen taught us about family. She taught us how to be kind and she did it gracefully. She taught us work ethic and how to have fun. She taught us dedication and commitment and love. She was extraordinary in her own special way. Thank you for this life Helen.
