Growing up I remember every time my family would come to Cleveland, I would be so excited to visit my Aunt Mary’s house because I knew I could run upstairs and jump on Carol’s bed and play with all her stuffed animals. She was so cool because she was a TEENAGER and could drive myself, my brother Ron and our cousin John all around. So many memories throughout the past 60+ years…any time I would come to Cleveland, whether it was for a wedding, a funeral, a family reunion- I stayed with Carol. I remember when I attended her wedding to Bob (Webb) and it snowed the day before the ceremony. We don’t get much snow in Orlando, Florida so I was thrilled. Carol didn’t let it bother her- nothing was going to ruin that day! I remember her and I sitting around her kitchen table with my dad (Uncle Andy), Aunt Mary and Aunt Ann, listening to them tell stories of their childhood. Carol and I could not stop laughing as they interrupted each other and had their own versions of what happened “in the day”. I remember staying in the basement (or should I say “man cave”) one time when I visited- now that was an experience. I remember her teaching me how to play pinochle. Every Christmas my Aunt Mary would send me a care package filled with our tradition Slovak foods. After Aunt Mary passed, Carol continued that tradition- every year, year after year. COVID impacted so many people in so many ways- for me it was not being able to get together with Carol and Bob (Holt)- they were planning a trip to Florida, and they were going to stay with me when in Orlando. When they had to cancel their trip, I was so disappointed but figured I would see her again soon. We talked about getting all the cousins together for a family reunion…My biggest regret is that we didn’t make that happen. My heart, prayers and thoughts go out to the family, especially Anthony and Alan. Please know your mom was very much loved and appreciated for her wit, her laughter, and her kindness.
